"As you go more deeply into this realm of no-mind, this sense of your own presence, you realize the state of pure consciousness. In that state, you feel your own presence with such intensity and such joy that all thinking, all emotions, your physical body and the whole external world become relatively insignificant in comparison to it. A new dimension of consciousness has come in. And yet this is not a selfish but a selfless state. It takes you beyond what you previously thought of as ‘your self’."
Everything we experience when we are awake, including our strong sense of a personal self, is empty of true existence. Despite the concrete appearance of something existing out there separate from us, these phenomena do not in fact exist from their own side at all. Appearances are merely labelled by our egoic mind and we believe in those labels and accept them to be true, which can lead to conflict and confusion. If we are clearly aware of this, we will not so readily allow ourselves to fall under their spell. If we train ourselves to contemplate the basic clarity of our awareness where these appearances arise, we will eventually enter into and sustain an experience of non-duality in which all conflict and confusion ultimately subside.
